At the primary schools participating in the Compensatory Teaching Program, the Greek language skills of the children in the upper grades are enhanced through classes in mathematics and natural sciences, two subjects that have proved to be difficult for many pupils. At minority primary schools these two classes are taught in the Turkish language. Therefore, those minority pupils who choose to continue their studies at public secondary schools often encounter difficulties related to the change in the language of instruction. In the compensatory math and natural sciences classes, the teachers use educational materials produced within the framework of the Project, plus suitable supporting materials. The teachers who teach these classes are supported within the framework of systematic training meetings and cooperation at the classroom level.
