Training of Teachers for the History Class
Throughout the 2002-03 and 2003-04 school years, seven training ‘meetings’ took place with teachers of secondary education in Thrace (in Xanthi and in Komotini), whereas in the next phase of the Project (2005-2007) four such meetings were organized.
The training meetings consisted of four units:
- A meeting on issues of Methodology of History and practical issues in teaching History.
- A workshop on the use of historical maps in the teaching of History.
- A workshop on the ‘activities’: games, exercises, pictures.
- A workshop on the historical sources: How to organize the course based on texts or passages from primary material.
In the 2005-07 period, the training was primarily based upon the educational materials produced by the Project, with a content somewhat modified to comply with the instructions of the Pedagogical Institute. The aim of the training was to familiarize the teachers with the logic and the use of the proposed materials for the teaching of the History class in the seventh grade and to note down the views, the reactions and the suggestions of teachers about these materials.
