The 2005 – 2007 Period

The training in that period was done parallel to the conduct of classes based on the use of the PEM-produced educational materials for the Natural Sciences (NS). The training was for “PE4 educators” (who teach natural sciences at secondary schools) and consisted of a series of seminars pertaining to the teaching and learning of NS. 

The first two seminars focused on the issue of evaluation (of pupils, of the teaching-learning, of the material, etc.). In this framework, the types of evaluation recommended by the official Analytical Programs (Curricula) were compared to the ones implemented, as a rule, by the PE4 educators, and also to the ones proposed by the PEM’s educational material. 

The goals of the seminars were:
1. To demonstrate and underline the “many faces” of evaluation, and

2. To help NS teachers detect and recognize the positive aspects of their pupils’ performance during the classes and the exams (and not just the negative ones: what they do not know, what mistakes they make, etc.). 

The seminars of the 2006-2007 school year focused on the analysis of how the teachers utilized the PEM-produced educational materials in their practice. 

The goals of these seminars were:
1. To shed light on the advantages and disadvantages of using the proposed educational materials in combination with the official ones, both in the after-hours program and at the regular hours of secondary schools.

2. To help teachers practice on the methods for analyzing “teaching-learning events” and at the same time to enable them to contribute substantially to a large-scale analysis of the PEM-produced and proposed educational materials.
